Already in Bayford's new Ford showrooms, the new Mondeo is a very European drive and a very European car. Already setting new standards, the Mondeo has an impressive array of safety features including stability control, traction assist to stop wheel-spin during take off, anti-skid brakes with emergency brake assist and brakeforce distribution, and seven safety airbags.

Available in a variety of engines including exceptionally economical diesels, the vehicle is based on Ford's Global Design strategy which has already seen a number of winners, including the Focus range. The family sized interior in a medium size body is pointing to the new direction of vehicles in Australia as buyers are becoming more conscious about conserving fuel economy, yet at the same time wish to enjoy the space and luxury of a family car. Ford Performance Vehicles has rolled out another new GT Falcon - the Cobra Strike, almost 30 years after the initial XC Cobra coupe.

With a new "big news" engine developing 302kW - twice the power output of the original 70s model, the Cobra Strike will be available in both sedan and ute models to celebrate 30 years of the models evolution. The model will be available in very limited numbers only, and expected to be quickly taken up by real motoring enthusiasts. For more information on the FPV range, see our Preston FPV showroom.

Imagine a car that obeys the road rules, brakes, accelerates, steers around peak hour traffic, reverses out of tight parking spots, detects stop signs and road markings - all without you doing a thing.


Well that's what Volkswagen has been doing with its Lux laser guided car which is based on the Passat Estate (wagon) model. It is fitted with high-tech radars, equipment and satellite navigation that maps out a 200m radius of the cars surrounding conditions including pedestrians, other cars, buildings and road conditions - and it is hardly noticeable to the unsuspecting observer. The research is being conducted as part of developing what used to be science fiction into science fact, and undoubtedly much of the technology will find its way into production vehicles over the next few years.

This is just one of the evolutionary projects being supported by Volkswagen. The Team at Volkswagen is also hard at work in many other areas.

The model will be a good improvement on its predecessor, with enhancements in quality, ergonomics, electronics, tweaked dynamics and several new improved petrol engines. Design styles of the 308 adopt Peugeot's current global grille theme and the new model will sport wider front and rear tracks for better stability. Comfort and safety are also improved, including larger front and rear brakes for even better (than what is already great) stopping. In a recent comparison of 4 well known brands, The Age's Drive column delivered excellent praise for the Volkswagen Golf GT, putting it ahead in their opinion of the Volvo C30 LE, HSV's VXR and the Mini Cooper.

The Volkswagen Golf is one of the most popular hatch models available in Australia and is certainly deserving of fine appraisal. Quoting their pros of the Golf GT... "Impressive technology, balanced ride and handling, comfortable".

And there's more good news on the famous Volkswagen range, with the Golf R32 winning Best Sports Car in Australia's Best Cars Awards 2007 and the Polo TDi winning the Best Small Car Award.

Reports are not yet clear on the final specifications, however, there are 5 turbo-charged engines for this new 4WD which will undoubtedly compete directly with the likes of Subaru, Toyota and Nissan. Watch this space.
